As time progressed, I delved deeper into the world of AI and started harnessing computer vision to automate various tasks. One of my initial projects involved object detection, where the computer could identify and distinguish objects like balls, squares, and colors such as red and orange. Through computer vision, I enabled the system to make assumptions and learn from patterns. When it made errors, it would correct itself and gradually improve its accuracy, ultimately automating a wide range of tasks. This journey allowed me to automate numerous tasks, freeing up my time for more meaningful and non-repetitive work.

Can you tell our readers about the most interesting projects you are working on now?

I’m currently engaged in a few exciting projects. First, there’s zant, where we’re developing AI elements of the app to improve their user experience. Additionally, I’m working on an intriguing merchandising project for a company. We’re leveraging AI to automatically generate merchandise by scraping data from users’ websites. This involves inputting the data into a bot, adding labels, and presenting the merchandise to the client before they make a purchase. The unique aspect is that all the merchandise appears branded by the client’s company, and it’s incredibly photorealistic.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I’m deeply grateful to my grandparents for their significant role in shaping my journey. Both of them were engineers at NASA, and their brilliance and influence were invaluable during my formative years. Their work at NASA served as a profound inspiration, steering me toward a fascination with advanced mathematics, physics, and other related fields. From a very young age, they began teaching me complex concepts like hexadecimal when I was just four or five years old — knowledge that most children my age weren’t exposed to. Their early guidance played a pivotal role in shaping my career path and influencing many other aspects of my life.

As with any career path, the AI industry comes with its own set of challenges. Could you elaborate on some of the significant challenges you faced in your AI career and how you managed to overcome them?

One of the most significant challenges I’ve encountered in my AI career is human resistance. This has been and will likely continue to be an ongoing challenge. The issue arises when certain tasks become redundant due to automation, sparking ethical debates. I would consider the human element, the resistance to embrace change and automation, as the primary challenge in the AI industry.

Ok, let’s now move to the main part of our interview about AI. What are the 3 things that most excite you about the AI industry now? Why?

I’m thrilled about several aspects of the AI industry today. Firstly, the rapid pace of advancement in human evolution is truly exhilarating. If you consider the progress made from the early 1900s to the 1910s and compare it to how quickly things are evolving from month to month now, it’s astonishing. We’re edging closer to the concept of singularity, where the boundary between humans and machines becomes increasingly blurred.

Lastly, solving complex problems through AI is another thrilling development. The industry’s growth fosters collaboration and creativity, enabling a multitude of entrepreneurs to explore new avenues and push the boundaries of innovation, whether it’s in the arts or other domains. AI is empowering individuals and businesses to harness their creative potential and bring fresh ideas to life.

What are the 3 things that concern you about the AI industry? Why? What should be done to address and alleviate those concerns?

Three significant concerns weigh on my mind regarding the AI industry. Firstly, the issue of AI-generated hallucinations is a growing concern. People are increasingly exposed to information that appears factual but is misleading or false. This poses a significant challenge, and finding effective solutions remains elusive.

Secondly, the displacement of jobs is a substantial concern. As I’ve mentioned previously, this is a major issue that needs to be addressed, given the potential impact on employment and livelihoods.

Thirdly, there are ethical and safety implications. It’s challenging to determine which one is more concerning, but both are critical. We are allowing AI to make rapid decisions without the comprehensive regulations needed to ensure responsible and safe AI development. While regulations may not halt AI advancements, they are essential for addressing safety concerns associated with AI technology.

For a young person who would like to eventually make a career in AI, which skills and subjects do they need to learn?

For a young individual aspiring to build a career in AI, I would recommend focusing on tech-related subjects, but perhaps the most foundational skill to acquire is logic. A strong grasp of logic will provide a solid foundation and serve as a valuable asset throughout the AI career journey.

As you know, there are not that many women in the AI industry. Can you advise what is needed to engage more women in the AI industry?

Over time, we’ve witnessed significant changes in the accessibility of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs, which is helping to draw more women into the AI industry. Initiatives like ‘Girls Who Code’ have played a pivotal role in this movement. Additionally, the widespread accessibility of computing devices has reshaped the perception of technology. While it was once seen as a niche interest, now, knowing how to navigate applications on a smartphone or similar devices has become commonplace. This accessibility, combined with the ability to make technology serve diverse interests, has encouraged individuals from various demographics, including women, to engage with AI and technology. It’s about making technology more appealing and approachable, and we’re witnessing a shift in that direction.

Ethical AI development is a pressing concern in the industry. How do you approach the ethical implications of AI, and what steps do you believe individuals and organizations should take to ensure responsible and fair AI practices?

Ethical considerations in AI development are undeniably critical in our industry. To approach these ethical implications, I believe in a multi-faceted strategy.

What is your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that had relevance to your own life?

One of my favorite life lesson quotes is attributed to Steve Jobs, and it revolves around the concept of thinking innovatively and not being constrained by conventional boundaries. This quote deeply resonates with me because it underscores the importance of challenging the status quo and exploring unconventional paths.

For instance, I recently recalled Elon Musk’s vision for reusable rockets during a discussion. Although he didn’t physically build the rockets himself, his visionary thinking led him to assemble a team capable of turning that vision into reality. This example demonstrates that innovative thinking can lead to groundbreaking achievements, even in areas as complex as space exploration.

In essence, Steve Jobs’ quote serves as a constant reminder for me to break free from the constraints of conventional thinking, seek innovative solutions, and embrace new ideas.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

If I were to inspire a movement that could have the greatest positive impact on the largest number of people, it would be the universal provision of technology, particularly in developing nations. I often reflect on the story of a renowned mathematician named Ramesh, who had limited access to the outside world. Despite this, his contributions may have been as significant, if not more so, than those of Einstein. The challenge was his inability to effectively communicate his ideas to the world. Therefore, my movement would focus on empowering individuals everywhere with access to the Internet. There are countless brilliant minds across the globe whose potential remains untapped simply because they lack the means to share their knowledge and innovations with the wider world.
